The unique legacy of the Ptuj carnival is deeply rooted in the mystical pagan character of the Kurent and many other characters. Wearing masks is a long-lasting tradition and part of the identity of the local population. The Kurentovanje Carnival is considered to be one of the 10 most interesting carnival experiences in the world. And since this year marks it's 60th official anniversary, the festivities will be even richer and grander, so it is definitely a must-see.

Throughout the festival, numerous events take place in the town’s vibrant squares, streets and its surroundings, where you will get to experience the genuine carnival spirit, learn about the story of the Kurent, visit the old city center and the Ptuj Castle with it's rich ethnographic carnival collection. Along with the story of the carnival, you will also experience Styria's wine culture and culinary tradition by visiting boutique wine cellars and local restaurants.
